Both governments and individuals can influence policy, which, at its largest scale, can have huge impacts on millions of people. Some policy is positive. Some policy is negative. But policies make a big difference in how the world is run. This image depicts a check mark in a square box, which may represent how policy is created or how it is carried out.

## Artist Lens

The student who created this work was very invested in the open-ended meaning behind the image. The checked box could represent a number of policy-related issues. For example, it could stand for checking a box without getting to the root of the issue (“We sent aid. We’re done.”) or it could stand for voting to change policy.

In a way, this artwork is all about the concept of how things are broken down and what policies are made to help which people.
