On Monday, November 7, the Incubator hosted more than 30 faculty and staff from across the University for the monthly meeting of the Harvard Initiative for Teaching and Learning (HILT)’s “Teaching and Learning Consortium.” The HILT TLC convenes academic professionals from Harvard’s Schools, libraries, museums, and university-wide institutions to develop and refine teaching and learning ideas and initiatives that cross school and disciplinary boundaries. The Incubator was a perfect fit.

During the meeting’s first hour, Incubator director Sue J. Goldie quickly guided the group through an innovative, interdisciplinary conceptual framework for global health. As she explained, “At the Incubator global health has the broad definition of thinking with a global perspective.” After this rapid-fire introduction, Professor Goldie shared some video clips with highlights from past Incubator projects on [youth mentorship, faculty mentoring](/partners-pilots) and [teaching through graphics](/drawing-graphics). Additionally, the group viewed a couple of ["behind the scenes”](/behind-the-scenes) videos to better understand the process (and fun!) involved in creating these videos. TLC contributor Daniel Seaton, a research scientist with the Harvard Office of the Vice Provost for Advances in Learning (VPAL), also spoke, presenting his recent work on a new web-based library of digital curricular assets for use by Harvard faculty.

The second half of the meeting was devoted to TLC project updates and small-group discussions. Four breakout groups met throughout the Incubator’s space, giving participants a firsthand opportunity to experience the intentionality of the Incubator’s physical design to spark creative conversation and make unexpected connections. After the group reconvened for concluding remarks, several TLC members stayed to tour the space in more depth and discuss Incubator initiatives with GHELI staff. Many commented that the Incubator had been an ideal space for their gathering, remarking that the creative, multi-use environment “made for one of the most engaging (and lively) meetings” of the consortium.
