Incubator Collaborates on Course with Moon and Frenk
The Incubator collaborated with Julio Frenk, then Dean of the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health and now President of the University of Miami, and Suerie Moon, an expert in global health and global governance who holds joint appointments at the Chan School and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, to support their curriculum development for “GHP 556: Fundamental Concepts of Public Health,” held in July 2015 for Chan School DrPH students. The Incubator provided discussion space and guidance on ways to integrate student feedback from previous years’ course offerings, as well as support to incorporate instructional strategies for further promoting engagement and active learning in the classroom. Incubator Director Sue J. Goldie taught the course modules focused on her innovative framework for global health and indicators for measuring health. She also developed in-class and take-home activities that leveraged visual communication strategies for global health learning.
Following their completion of the course, several DrPH students worked with Goldie and Frenk as teaching fellows for an adapted week-long “Fundamental Concepts of Public Health” class, developed and piloted in August as part of the Chan School’s week-long orientation for incoming master’s students.
