Incubator Offers Multimedia Learning Experience for High School Youth
The Incubator partnered with the Harvard University Center for AIDS Research’s “Believe the H.Y.P.E.” high-school outreach program to offer several intensive workshops for the students, their Harvard College undergraduate mentors, and community partners during the spring of 2015. The H.Y.P.E. program aimed to engage and empower urban youth at risk of feeling disconnected from the larger community and society, with the goal of equipping high-school students with information about the health and social impact of HIV/AIDS through the creation of a multimedia messaging campaign to educate their peers. Students spent time at the Incubator’s Studios learning about Dr. Goldie’s innovative global health framework and developing media and presentation skills.
Following their formal involvement in the CFAR H.Y.P.E. program, two of the students participated in a paid summer learning experience at the Incubator. With training and support from the Derek Bok Center for Teaching and Learning, they developed their own media projects on global health topics of particular interest, and in the process honed their media, presentation, and research skills.
