Sustainable Mobility and Road Safety
The 7th UN Global Road Safety Week, held this year from May 15-21, 2023, will focus on the importance of sustainable transport, highlighting the need to rethink mobility and shift toward walking, cycling, and using public transportation. UN Global Road Safety Week, organized by the World Health Organization, invites road safety and mobility partners to collaborate and focus on ensuring road safety to reduce road traffic injuries, which remain a leading cause of death and disability worldwide. An estimated 1.3 million road traffic deaths and 50 million road traffic injuries occur globally each year.
The WHO urges several key messages as part of Global Road Safety Week, focusing on the need for governments to reimagine how people move in the world, which includes designing safe road networks, modes of transportation, and public transport systems that best contribute to people’s health and well-being.
