Addressing Global Trends of Gender-Based Violence

November 27, 2019

Every year, UN Women’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence aims to raise awareness and call attention to a profound global crisis, a topic that falls squarely under GHELI’s focus of showcasing public goods that address multidisciplinary, complex global challenges. This event highlights the pressing need to end all forms of violence based on gender, this year specifically highlighting rape culture, a form of gender inequality which persists across global communities both in times of peace or conflict and in and out of homes. One of the key challenges in addressing this issue is the disparate definitions of violence and consent, while elsewhere it can be due to longstanding and harmful power dynamics.
