Applications Open for Global Studies Workshop

What is the role of art in shaping the metaphors and narratives that help us make sense of the world? How have artists and activists worked together, historically and in the present, to illustrate and influence global issues? How does power influence how art is created, shared, consumed and valued?

These are some of the questions educators will explore at this year’s Global Studies Outreach summer workshop co-sponsored by the Global Health Education and Learning Incubator (GHELI). In this four-day workshop, educators from across the U.S. will come together to discuss how imagination, creativity, and art influences our individual and collective viewpoints and how they might be used to create change.

The workshop will be held on-site at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA, from July 29 to August 1, 2024, and cost $100. The deadline to apply is April 1, 2024. The workshop is geared toward middle school, high school, and community college educators, but it is open to educators of all levels.

This workshop is organized by the Global Studies Outreach Committee, a consortium of centers at Harvard University, including the Davis Center, the Asia Center, the Center for African Studies, and the Global Health Education and Learning Incubator. Additional program support is provided by North Shore Community College and Religion and Public Life at Harvard Divinity School.

At GHELI, we believe in the power of creativity to effect change. In our global learning studios, we experiment with a variety of creative mediums to facilitate teaching and learning about complex global health issues.
