Farah Qureshi, MHS, a student fellow at the Global Health Education and Learning Incubator (GHELI), received the “Best Student Poster Award” at the 2017 Society for Epidemiologic Research Annual Meeting for her poster titled “Sex differences in the relationship between socioeconomic factors and cardiometabolic health from childhood to adolescence.” She received a GHELI travel scholarship to support her attendance at this conference.

Farah is a Doctor of Science (SD) candidate studying social epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, where her research investigates the role protective factors play in buffering the impact of social adversity on children's mental and physical health over the life course. She served as the head teaching fellow (TF) for the spring 2017 Harvard College course “Societies of the World 24—Global Health Challenges: Complexities of Evidence-Based Policy,” taught by GHELI Faculty Director Sue J. Goldie. The course was conducted in parallel to an online version of the course, offered by Harvard’s Extension School, and Farah was instrumental in coordinating the pedagogical innovations and logistic considerations for the two classes as well as running TF trainings and meetings, managing the teaching staff, and supporting Professor Goldie in class preparation and student assessment.

As a pedagogy fellow at GHELI, Farah will be developing teaching resources on topics related to child health and well-being, as well as an educational guide teaching students how to effectively communicate complex research to diverse audiences.
