Student Gallery Opening

December 20, 2023
Sue J. Goldie having a discussion with undergraduate students.

Spirits were high this winter as the Global Health Education and Learning Incubator (GHELI) teaching and learning team welcomed students into the Incubator to see their work displayed in the GHELI global health student gallery.

The gallery features a collection of student works that embody the Incubator’s educational mission: to inspire and support creative ways to teach and learn about global health. Newly added to the collection were a set of exemplary final projects from Professor Goldie’s Spring 2023 Harvard college course, Gen Ed 1063: World Health: Challenges and Opportunities. For this hand-on assignment, students were asked to systematically analyze a global health problem of their choice and produce a “real world” product intended to inspire action, influence policy, or create change.

This year’s batch of student work encompassed a variety of different topics and mediums, from an illustrated poster on mental health and suicide in American adolescents to an animated video warning about the health impacts of climate change in Brazil. Each work showcases the creativity and hard work of Harvard college students interested in global health.

During the event, students had a chance to browse the gallery, share their projects with one another, and partake in lively discussion on the course’s pedagogical approach with Professor Goldie. Students were also brought into GHELI’s Global Learning Studio and asked about their creative process. Common themes included how choosing a creative project allowed students to try out new mediums and that seeing their projects in the flesh reiterated how students could create real world change.
