Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute

The Ukrainian Research Institute serves as a focal point for graduate and undergraduate students, fellows, and associates pursuing research in the Ukrainian language, literature, and history, as well as in anthropology, archaeology, art history, economics, political science, sociology, theology, and other disciplines. With Ukraine’s independence from the former Soviet Union in 1991, the Institute’s mission has broadened to include contemporary political, social, and economic issues. Activities include seminars, symposia, and conferences on a variety of related topics. The Institute publishes the Harvard Ukrainian Studies journal (founded in 1977) as well as an extensive series of books, and coordinates the Harvard Ukrainian Summer Institute, which offers a variety of language and humanities courses through the Harvard Summer School. Researchers may also draw on the Ukrainian collection at the Harvard University Library, the largest collection outside Eastern Europe.
