Harvard-Yenching Institute

The Harvard-Yenching Institute is an independent foundation dedicated to advancing higher education in Asia in the humanities and social sciences, with special attention to the study of Asian culture. The Institute currently enjoys partnerships with more than 50 universities and research centers in East and Southeast Asia, and supports doctoral scholarships, visiting fellowships, academic publications, advanced training programs, conferences, and other scholarly initiatives—in Asia, at Harvard University, and elsewhere—intended to increase scholarly communication and to promote graduate and post-graduate research in Asian studies. It is the publishing home of the Harvard Journal of Asiatic Studies and the Harvard-Yenching Institute Monograph Series, and also supports several Chinese publications in the People’s Republic of China as well as a Vietnamese publication series. Current fellows are engaged in research across many fields, including the history of science, anthropology, ethnology, political science, sociology, literature, and film.
