John King Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies

The Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies, founded in 1955, facilitates interdisciplinary training and research in all fields of Chinese studies at Harvard, particularly on modern China, including Taiwan as well as the mainland. The Center aids scholarly exchanges among Harvard faculty and students and visitors. The Center sponsors ongoing workshops, including a gender studies workshop that has addressed such topics as a comparison of maternal health risks and health guidance between China and the U.S. The Fairbank Center offers travel grants, research grants, and essay prizes for undergraduates, and is home to the Digital China Initiative, a range of new projects, research tools, and forums that draw on emerging social media and digital innovations. The Center works closely with other Asia-focused institutions within the University including the Asia Center, the Harvard China Fund, the Harvard China Project, the Reischauer Institute of Japanese Studies, the Korea Institute, the South Asia Institute, the Harvard-Yenching Institute, and the Harvard-Yenching Library.
